After a year of intensive research, development and testing, the moment has arrived: Examplary officially launches today. The first AI assessment platform that truly supports teachers is now freely accessible to everyone in education. Fully GDPR and AI Act compliant.
The reality of assessment
Teachers in secondary education spend an average of 8 hours per week creating, administering and grading assessments. In higher education, this often increases even further. This time pressure forces teachers to choose assessment formats that are quick to grade, such as multiple choice, while other formats like open-ended questions often better align with learning objectives.
Schools and other educational institutions have been struggling with how to handle AI since the arrival of ChatGPT. It’s time for a different approach. Instead of viewing AI as a threat, we can embrace this technology as an opportunity to fundamentally improve education and support teachers in their daily practice.
Personalized assessment at scale
Examplary ends the choice between efficiency and quality. Our platform supports the complete assessment process – from creating and administering assessments to grading and providing feedback. Everything in one user-friendly environment, whether you assess digitally or on paper. Whether you teach year 2 secondary school or a university master’s program. Whether you teach French or theoretical physics.
Most importantly: the teacher remains in control. The AI functions as an intelligent assistant that supports your work, not replaces it. You decide how you assess, which taxonomy is used, which question types the assessment contains, which suggestions and feedback you adopt… Our platform adapts to the subject matter and your experience and expertise.
Additionally, Examplary opens the door to an entirely new assessment format with interactive AI questions. An economics teacher can have students negotiate with a virtual supplier about prices and conditions. In Dutch language classes, students practice their argumentation skills by debating with the AI about societal topics. And medical students can diagnose a patient with symptoms, where the AI provides additional information when the right questions are asked. The AI responds intelligently and personally to each student.
What does Examplary deliver?

- Pedagogical quality: Varied assessments that truly measure what you want to know

Born from educational practice
For a year, we collaborated with more than 50 teachers from secondary, vocational, higher professional and university education to develop Examplary. From brainstorming sessions to testing prototypes with students – everything you can use starting today is based on what teachers actually need.
For educational institutions, we also offer a version of Examplary that fully integrates with the LMS (via LTI) and includes a shared workspace.
Next month we’re also launching our first Innovation Lab ‘Assessment and Grading with AI’ in secondary education with De Goudse Waarden. We will also start similar innovation labs in vocational, higher professional and university education this academic year, as well as with other partners such as homework support services and assessment agencies.
