As an admin, you choose which question types teachers in your workspace can use under Account settings → Question types. Almost every question type is on by default. Only Sentence analysis and Javascript need to be turned on. Enabling or disabling a question type takes effect straight away, for everyone in your workspace.
Examplary has more than twenty question types, from multiple choice to a conversation with a character. You might turn on Sentence analysis for Dutch classes, for example, or turn off a question type that doesn't suit your school.
Turn question types on and off
Go to Account settings → Question types. Only admins and owners see this page. From a test, you can also get there through Manage question types... at the bottom of Add question.
You'll see two lists: Enabled question types and Available question types. Each question type has a short description and who made it, such as By Examplary.
- Click the plus (Enable question type) to turn a question type on.
- Click the minus (Disable question type) to turn it off.
The change applies straight away, to everyone in your workspace. You can't turn question types on or off per teacher or per test.
Which question types are on by default?
Almost all of them, from Short answer and Multiple choice to Formula, Voice recorder and Persona chat. Only Sentence analysis and Javascript are off.
Question types don't all work the same way:
- Closed questions, such as Multiple choice or Sequence, are graded by Examplary without AI.
- For open questions, such as Essay, Formula and Voice recorder, the AI suggests a grade. The teacher reviews it and decides.
- Select point, Picture choice and Javascript aren't generated by the AI. You add those by hand.
The question types page shows what each one can do.
What happens when you turn a question type off
Existing questions of that type keep working. Students still see them, and they're graded as usual. The question type disappears from Add question, though, and the AI stops using it when teachers use the AI test generator, create practice spaces or import tests.
Limit question types for one test
Teachers can choose which question types the AI uses for each test, under Settings → AI context → Question types. The default is Let AI decide. Practice spaces have the same setting.
Build your own question type
Developers can build and upload a question type of their own. It's available in your own workspace straight away. To offer it to other schools too, Examplary reviews it first. The developer documentation explains how.
Troubleshooting
I don't see Question types in the account settings. You're not an admin or owner. Only they can manage question types.
A question type never shows up in a generated test. The AI can't generate every question type, or the test is limited to certain types under Settings → AI context → Question types.
Introduction or Outro is grayed out in Add question. The test already has one. A test can have one Introduction and one Outro.
