You create your first test in Examplary from your own teaching materials. Start a new test, add a textbook chapter, a course reader or your notes, and Examplary turns them into questions and scoring criteria in a few minutes. Then you review the questions, change what needs changing and share the test with your class.
Create a test
- Click Create new and choose Test.
- Enter a Test title. It's the only required field.
- Choose the Subject and the Student level of your class. The AI pitches the questions at that level.
- Under Source materials, add your teaching materials, such as a PDF, a Word document or a few scanned pages from the textbook. Adding source materials in Examplary explains the options.
- Click Add questions. The editor opens.
The test is written in the language you use Examplary in. Making a test for another subject, like French? Set its language under Settings → General settings → Language.
Generate the test
An empty test shows Automatically generate your test at the top.
- Click Generate test. The Test context window opens.
- Under Duration, choose how long your students should spend on the test. Examplary works out how many questions fit in that time, up to 20.
- Leave Question types on Let AI decide, or pick the question types you want. Managing question types in Examplary explains which ones are turned on in your workspace.
- Under Additional instructions, tell the AI what it should know, like your learning objectives or which topic matters most. Suggestions based on your source materials appear under the field: click one to use it.
- Click Generate test.
Examplary analyzes your source materials, builds an outline of the test, sets the scoring criteria and writes the questions, with an introduction and a closing message for your students. How Examplary generates AI test questions explains step by step how the AI test generator works.
Without source materials you can't generate a whole test, but you can still generate single questions. Use Add question below the list of questions.
Review and edit the questions
Click a question to open it. On the right, Question preview shows what your students will see.
- Edit the text in the question itself. Settings has the options for the question type, and Scoring has the scoring criteria (see Creating a rubric or scoring criteria).
- Open the three-dot menu for the AI Actions: Regenerate question, Decrease difficulty, Increase difficulty, or type your own request in Ask AI....
- Something missing? Add a question with Add question, with AI or by hand, or reuse a saved one with Insert from question bank (see The question bank in Examplary).
Everything saves automatically. To go back to an earlier version, open the three-dot menu next to Test questions and choose View history.
Share the test with your class
Click Share in the top right and choose Publish as practice or Publish as test. Examplary sets up the settings for that purpose. In a practice test, students see their points and get feedback after every question. In a test they don't, and the time limit applies.
A window then opens where you decide who can take the test. Invite your class, or set Access to Anyone with the link and share that link. Sharing a test with your students covers the other options.
