Using Examplary with Claude, ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot

You can connect AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot to your Examplary account. The assistant can then work with your tests, questions, practice spaces and results, right from the chat.

    For example, you can ask:

    • "Which of my tests did I create this week?"
    • "Create a test about photosynthesis for year 9, with five multiple choice questions and one essay question."
    • "Summarize how my students did on the World War II test, and which questions they found hardest."
    • "Move all my chemistry tests into a folder called Chemistry."

The connection uses the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard for connecting AI assistants to other apps. Every assistant in this guide uses the same address:

    https://mcp.examplary.ai
    The assistant works as you

When you connect an assistant, you sign in to Examplary and choose what it may do. It can then see and change the same things you can in Examplary, and nothing more. On the Examplary for organizations plan, everything it does shows up in your workspace's audit logs under your name.

    Claude

Custom connectors work on every Claude plan. On the Free plan you can add one.

    Free, Pro and Max plans

    1. In Claude, go to Customize → Connectors
    2. Click Add custom connector
    3. Enter Examplary as the name and https://mcp.examplary.ai as the URL
    4. If Claude asks how it should identify itself, choose Register automatically
    5. Click Add, then Connect
    6. Sign in to Examplary, check the permissions, and click Authorize

    Team and Enterprise plans

An Owner adds the connector for the whole organization once:

    1. Go to Organization settings → Connectors
    2. Click Add, then Custom, and choose Web if Claude asks for the type
    3. Enter https://mcp.examplary.ai as the URL and click Add

Everyone in the organization then connects with their own Examplary account. Go to Customize → Connectors, find Examplary (it has a Custom label) and click Connect.

    Using it in a chat

Examplary is available in every new chat. To turn it on or off for one conversation, click the + button in the chat box and select Connectors.

    ChatGPT

ChatGPT connects to Examplary through Developer mode, which is available on the web for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu accounts.

    1. In ChatGPT, open Settings → Security and login and turn on Developer mode
    2. Go to Plugins and click the + button to create a new app
    3. Enter Examplary as the name and https://mcp.examplary.ai as the server URL, and choose OAuth as the authentication
    4. Save the app, sign in to Examplary, check the permissions, and click Authorize

To use Examplary in a conversation, click the + button in the chat box, choose Developer mode, and select Examplary.

Developer mode on a work or school account

On Business, Enterprise and Edu workspaces, your workspace admin decides whether people can use Developer mode. If you can't find it in your settings, ask your admin.

    Microsoft Copilot

Microsoft Copilot connects to Examplary through an agent built in Copilot Studio. Someone with access to Copilot Studio (usually your IT team) sets up the agent once. Teachers then use it in Microsoft 365 Copilot and Teams.

    Set up the agent

    1. In Copilot Studio, create a new agent or open an existing one
    2. Go to the agent's Tools page and click Add a tool
    3. Select New tool, then Model Context Protocol
    4. Fill in the server details:
      • Server name: Examplary
      • Server description: Finds, creates and updates tests, questions, practice spaces and results in Examplary
      • Server URL: https://mcp.examplary.ai
    5. Under authentication, select OAuth 2.0 and choose Dynamic discovery as the type
    6. Click Create, then Next
    7. Select Create a new connection, sign in to Examplary, and click Authorize
    8. Click Add to agent

Make the agent available to teachers

    1. Publish the agent in Copilot Studio
    2. Go to Channels and open Teams and Microsoft 365 Copilot
    3. Make sure Make agent available in Microsoft 365 Copilot is selected
    4. Under Availability options, choose who can use the agent. To share it with everyone, select Show to everyone in my org and click Submit for admin approval
    5. A Microsoft 365 admin approves the agent under Agents → All agents → Requests in the Microsoft 365 admin center

Teachers then find the agent in Microsoft 365 Copilot and Teams. The first time they use it, it asks them to sign in to Examplary with their own account.

    Getting good results

    • Name Examplary in your request, for example "In Examplary, find my tests about...". This helps the assistant pick the right tool, especially when other connectors are turned on.
    • Check before you confirm. Assistants usually ask for your approval before they change or delete something. Read what they're about to do before you click Allow.
    • Ask for bigger tasks in one go. For tasks that touch many tests or questions at once, the assistant can write a small script that runs in a secure sandbox at Examplary, instead of making dozens of separate requests.

    Disconnecting

To stop an assistant from using your Examplary account, remove the Examplary connector, app or tool in the assistant's settings. In Claude, for example, go to Customize → Connectors and click Remove.

    Troubleshooting

The sign-in page says "Redirect URI mismatch"

Your assistant connects in a way we don't support yet. Let us know at hi@examplary.ai which assistant you're using, and we'll look into it.

The assistant can't see some of my tests or settings

The assistant can only do what you allowed when you signed in, and what your role in Examplary allows. To grant more permissions, disconnect and connect again, and approve the permissions you need.

    The assistant doesn't use Examplary

Check that the connector is turned on for the conversation, and mention Examplary by name in your request. In ChatGPT, make sure you selected Examplary under Developer mode in the + menu.

I'm asked to sign in again

For your security, the connection expires if it isn't used for a long time. Sign in again to continue.
