From student to institution

What Examplary does for the student, the lecturer, the program and the institution, following one course with 240 first-year students.

  1. StudentBachelor's and master's students

    Practice between lectures

Students practice with questions from your lectures and readings, whenever it suits them. Every answer gets feedback: what's right, what's missing and how to improve. They come to the exam prepared, and you see in advance where the cohort gets stuck.

    • Practice questions from your own lectures and readings
    • Instant feedback on open answers
    • Insight per topic, before the exam

    1.5×

as much material stays with students after a week when they test themselves instead of rereading it four times.

    Roediger & Karpicke, 2006
  2. LecturerLecturers and examiners

Grading open questions, with the groundwork done per criterion

For every answer, the AI suggests points and feedback, explaining each criterion and how confident it is. You approve or adjust. Then you see per question and per topic how the cohort did, and which students still need help. You create questions and criteria from your own lectures and learning outcomes.

    • Analytic and holistic rubrics
    • Feedback for every student, even with 400 answers
    • Results per question, per topic and per group

    53%

of students at Dutch universities of applied sciences are satisfied with assessment and grading. Along with the information they get from their program, it's the topic they're most critical of.

  3. ProgramFor programs and examination boards

Grading together, against the same criteria

Examiners work on one exam together and grade together. A second assessor leaves a comment on an answer, you reply, and the decision is on record. Afterwards, anyone can follow how a grade came about.

    • Comments on answers, for colleagues or for the student
    • Version history of every exam
    • Shared folders with tests, questions and rubrics

    +38%

more consistent grading with Examplary than between teachers marking the same answers from a university computer science course.

Works in every program

Every discipline is assessed in its own way. Examplary has question types to match, from history-taking to programming.

Practicing history-taking

The AI plays a patient with a complaint. Students practice asking the right follow-up questions, as often as they like, before they work with real patients.

All 23 question types

Constructive alignment

From learning outcome to exam question

A good exam tests what the program promises. That's why questions and criteria in Examplary start from your own material: the learning outcomes, the lectures and the program's assessment model.

  1. 1

Learning outcomes as the starting point

Upload the course description, the learning outcomes or the test blueprint as a source, alongside the lectures and readings.

  2. 2

    Your own taxonomy

By default, Examplary uses Bloom's taxonomy. If you use your own framework, set it up once for the whole workspace.

  3. 3

    Labels per question

Link questions to a learning outcome or topic, and see after the exam how the cohort scored per label.

  4. 4

    Rubrics your examination board recognizes

Analytic, holistic or exact rubrics, drafted by the AI or by you, and always editable.

Together with Cirrus

How to start

We help your program from the first conversation to wide adoption.

  1. In a demo we show Examplary with one of your own courses. In the meantime, lecturers can start on their own for free.

Start with one course with many students and open questions. That's where you see the difference fastest.

Questions from higher education

Can't find your question? Email us at hi@examplary.ai.

  • The AI suggests a grade for every answer, explaining each criterion and how confident it is. The examiner decides. On the Mohler dataset, with answers from a university computer science course, Examplary grades 38% more consistently than teachers do with each other.

  • The examiner stays responsible for the grade, and Examplary is built for that: no grade is final without an examiner. The AI Act treats AI that evaluates learning outcomes as high-risk, with requirements such as human oversight and explainability. Set out these arrangements in your assessment policy.

  • Yes. Export exams to Ans, or as QTI 2.1 or 3.0 to any platform that supports the standard. Cirrus customers build a draft exam with Examplary inside Cirrus. Tests go into Canvas through LTI.

  • Yes. When grading is done you publish the results, and students see their points and the feedback per question. So they've seen much of it before any formal exam inspection.

  • Examplary isn't an AI detector: those are too unreliable to build on. It does help with assessment where you see how a student thinks: plenty of practice with instant feedback, conversations with an AI persona, and exams in a secure browser.

  • Data is stored encrypted in Frankfurt, AI processing stays in the EU by default, and nothing is used to train models. Your institution signs a data processing agreement with us. Under the AI Act, Examplary is classified as a high-risk system, with public documentation and an examiner who always decides.

  • Institutions use an organization license, priced per teacher. It includes single sign-on, the audit log, your own domain and branding, and shared folders, among other things. Lecturers can also start on their own for free first. In a demo we'll work out the numbers for your institution.
